During a residency in the spring of 2018 I spent two weeks at the Caldera Art Center located in the central Cascades of Oregon.
While there I developed a routine of daily walks around the area. A large fire had burned a decade or so prior and there were lots of sun-bleached logs and dried earth matter that I began to collect because of their striking textures.
In the evenings I experimented to capture these textures with a scanner. The process resulted in over 250 images, all captured at night to avoid allowing light into an open scanner platen.
Months later a selection of these images were compiled to be featured in Nocturnes, a book inspired by the temperment of the forest at night. Nocturnes was risograph printed on Neenah and French paper in metallic gold. Edition of 100.
