Layout & Design / Print + Production / Publishing
Practice is a collaboration with Timme Lu which began as imagemaking exercises in response to the titles of selected Emily Dickinson poems. The project evolved to become a conversation between digital/physical methods of image production—resulting in a three-color riso-printed book.
To begin, we set up a series of timed exercises to generate digital sketches in response to a selection of Dickinson’s work. The intention was to work quickly to create a set of visual ideas that we could abstract at a later point.
These digital sketches were printed out on a laser printer, physically altered, and with the addition of brush & ink, reimagined as tabloid-size physical collages.
Collages were again digitized to eventually become the booklet spreads. Practice was printed in orchid, warm red, and sea foam, with 2 laser printed vellum spreads. Edition of 50.
